Summer’s been in full swing this year, and the fashion certainly hasn’t disappointed.

With plenty of people thronging together at festivals, hopping on flights to long-awaited vacations, and heading out on the town for art markets, performances, and other fun events, we’ve seen a steady stream of bright and beautiful summer styles flooding the streets.

Here’s our roundup of the most popular trends we’ve spotted, and why we think they’re here to stay:

1. Beaded Accessories

Do you remember hoarding beads and charms to craft funky friendship accessories with your best mates back when you were little? Well, as 90’s and 2000’s babies take to the streets to make up for lost time spent in lockdown, beaded bags, mask chains, and even phone accessories have popped up at an all-time high. Nostalgic? Perhaps. Chic? Definitely.

2. Cat Eye Statement Sunnies

Sunglasses are the ultimate must-have for the summer, and this season, the cat eye shape is so in. The ultimate catfishing tool, this universally-flattering shape keeps the sun out of your eyes (obviously), and is the perfect way to hide a night of no sleep or makeup from the night before while making an attention-grabbing statement. Bonus points if you pick out a pair in an unexpected colourway!

3. Low Rise Bottoms

After almost a decade of high-waisted jeans, midi, and mini skirts, the low waistlines of the early aughts are finally making a solid comeback! As the post-Covid parties have started popping back up, so has this Paris Hilton-esque trend. Be it belly-baring, low-slung jeans or cheeky micro minis, we believe that the low-rise waistline is definitively back in the game.

4. Long Jorts

To contrast the ultra-feminine accessories and silhouettes that have been in full force this summer, long denim shorts (or ‘jorts’) serve as an anchor for those who prefer a more relaxed ‘dad shorts’ look. Paired with a patterned tube top or cropped vest, or even an elegant blouse like Bella Hadid in the images above, it’s the perfect way to maintain a carefree, cool girl vibe without looking like you’re trying too hard.

5. Deconstructed Apparel

In line with the overarching movement towards sustainable fashion that’s been sweeping the globe over the past few years, designers and independent creators such as TikTokers have begun to feature deconstructed, yet artfully sculptural elements in their garments and stylings, such as patchwork pieces and strategically placed cutouts. Our take? Funky tan lines aside, it’s a look that’s both fun and universally flattering, and can be implemented in endless unique ways.

6. Platform Kicks

Funky footwear has been absolutely everything this season, and nothing elevates an outfit quite like a sky-high shoe. All summer, platforms have been every fashionista’s answer to keeping their outfits on point while being able to boogie the night away without struggling to keep balanced.
